The Simpsons — “Thank God It’s Doomsday” (2005)

The use of dramatic vocalization in film has become standardized to the level of cliché over the course of the last ninety years. It now occurs in television shows (for example The Jerry Springer Show and The Simpsons), as well as in commercials. The association with the visual image has reinforced semiotic associations originally developed in nineteenth-century opera. Film (video/television) has naturally increased the range and number of scores containing dramatic vocalization, though most of the associative nature of this special musical technique has remained from its earliest use in such movies as Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz.
