Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Danny Elfman’s earlier film Edward Scissorhands (1990) includes frequent dramatic vocalization, yet this music’s omnipresence diffuses its effect. The same holds true for the later Sleepy Hollow (1999), again directed by Tim Burton. Although the effect of dramatic vocalization can be reduced through overuse, it is the larger sense of “mood” and “fantasy” that Burton and Elfman were attempting to create.
